After the untimely death of my mother while completing my graduate degree, I worked as an art therapist in a nursing home recreation department equipped with a “sensory cart” that featured a lava lamp, an aromatherapy diffuser, a slinky, a stress ball, and one of those fiber optic doo-dads vaguely reminiscent of those purchased at the Ice Capades in the 1980s. I laughed at it and was promptly sent to a fiber optic sensory workshop where I spent an entire day sitting in a dark room playing with glowing items that were nowhere near as cool as the Lite Brite or that fancy Glow Worm house I had as a kid. Since then, I have laughed at many other ridiculous things while at work and play.
I have moved on in my career and now play the role of a witty, charming, thirty-something marketing professional. I’d like to invite you to explore the more enjoyable things in life: art, fashion, food, wine, travel, fragrance, laughter and frankly, anything else that strikes my fancy. If there is one thing have learned it is this: life is short and if I happen to live long enough to require any congregate housing, I sure as hell don’t want to stare at a lava lamp and sniff peppermint oil. So after much prompting, I’ve created this blog dedicated to the experiences I’ve had on the adult playground and a sampling of the many things I’ve enjoyed doing that I feel are worth sharing with others. At the very least, I hope you’ll find the anecdotes entertaining and perhaps they will inspire you make that bucket list and check that off while you are young or wild enough to do so. If not, well, I’m sure there are probably a few shows on the DVR or some eBay purchases to help fill the void until the sensory cart rolls in. You’ll notice I haven’t made fun of bingo yet. I can’t use up all my material in two paragraphs….
